I am often guilty of taking a group’s inventory. I am also quick to judge an entire group based solely on a few of its members. One instance that comes to mind is a book study I attend from time to time. Most of its regular members nauseate me. They are arrogant, pompous and self-righteous. However, they have a knowledge of the book that I want. An analogy I like to use is I often had connections whom I could not stand but I wanted what they were selling. Its the same with this group. I can’t stand most of its members but they have something that I want–knowledge of the book.

My last share in a meeting was meant for someone specifically who has been suffering a lot lately, but stated in a general way for the entire meeting. So I contributed to that meeting’s primary purpose.

Sometimes I reach a dark place within myself that knows no Higher Power. I begin to pray whether I think it does any good or not. I remember that I do not have to live the way I used to live – pain and self-pity. When I can reach out to someone, anyone else, the darkness recedes and I am once again reconnected to my Higher Power.
